After a very busy Summer (hence no new posts) there are a few more pictures in the gallery and the Art Group is back in full swing - well almost, still a lot of holiday-taking going on.
We were sorry to hear that Glyn, one of our members who's excellent work appears in the gallery is now in full time residential care and unlikely to paint again. Take a look at his work, the detail and observation is wonderful. We welcome a new member - Tom to the group, we always welcome new people and if you are reading this and not a member why not get in touch. Not long now until the Tour de France comes to Leeds - and then goes again so that everything can return to normal. Look for Sue's take on 'Le Tour' in our guest gallery. Are there any other 'Tour' pictures out there? Let us know.
The Art Group meets alternate Thursdays at the moment, the next meeting is June 26th, if you're not a member - and you would like to be, please feel free to come along. Following last month's very quiet outing to Saltaire, this month's outing to Knaresborough was well attended by a number of members and associate members of Methley Art Group. With lovely sunny weather a good day was had by all, sketching, taking photographs, eating, shopping etc etc.... With another outing to a venue yet to be announced in July and a trip organised to Skipton in August we look forward to more of the same. If you are interested in joining us please contact us via our contact page or just turn up, we are meeting on alternate Thursdays until September 4th when we revert to weekly meetings. Meetings are June 12th, 26th, July 10th, 24th and August 7th, and 21st. More guest pictures by Sue Beardsworth have been added and the galleries generally dusted and tidied up a bit. Take a look....
The next event coming up is the Wakefield Art Walk on Wednesday March 26th. Usual arrangements apply but if anyone out there wishes to join in with Methley Art Group's tour of the Art Walk please contact us via the Contacts Page on the Website. Details of the art walk can be found here http://artwalk.org.uk/. One of the highlights this month will be at Beam, located at the Orangery which includes work by our good friend Amelia Crouch who is one of the organisers of the Leeds Art Walk. You can find out more about Amelia here http://www.ameliacrouch.com/ . Art Group meetings continue through every Thursday now until Easter, with the last meeting on April 10th. We still have space for some new members so please contact us via the contacts page if you want to join us, or just call in between 7.00 and 9.00 Thursday evenings. Our Guest Gallery has some pictures provided by our first guest artist. If anyone else out there would like to add some of their work please get in touch via the website.
Normal meetings resume on February 27th, don't forget the Leeds Art Walk on March 5th, details are published on their website http://leedsartwalk.wordpress.com/ We still have space for new members if anyone is interested in joining us. We have been asked by the church if we would mind not meeting on Thursday 20th February, they are holding an event that needs the whole church to be available. All other meeting dates are unaffected.
We also welcome four new members to the group. Anyone else reading this who is thinking of joining please contact us via the contact page or come along one Thursday evening (but not the 20th!). Another year and we welcome some new and returning members. We meet every Thursday now until Easter and we have the Leeds and Wakefield Art Walks to look forward to as well. There is a new gallery on the website, Gallery 7 which contains a number of pictures by Rona Powell.
Happy New Year to all Another interesting Leeds Art Walk last night, one of the events was at the Majestic in City Square. anyone who remembers going there when it was a cinema in the sixties would be amazed at how small it looks by today's standards!
Meanwhile at Methley Art Group the autumn/winter term continues, with our Christmas meal booked for the 17th December it looks like the Festive Season is all too close. If you are a non-member of the group and are reading this, wondering what the art group is like please come along and see us. A few more members would be great and it's probably the cheapest night out to be had in Methley The new season at Methley is well under way with lots of new art under production. Examples of these will appear in our galleries soon. In the meantime we are always short of new members so if you are reading this and are interested in joining us please get in touch. Our members come from Leeds and Wakefield, including of course Methley and are from all age ranges and abilities.
